About the Level 1 Coaching Accreditation

Wrestling Australia have developed the ‘Wrestling 201: Course for Coaches’ as the first step on our new coaching and official’s accreditation system.

The course operates as both an online education platform and in-person practical assessment, to provide a holistic learning experience and to ensure our coaches are receiving the best possible training. Upon completion of the course, a coach will be confident in leading wrestling sessions for athletes in the development stage, inclusive of both adults and children.

Step 1 - Registration:

Register here: Wrestling Australia

Participants will need to register online for the Wrestling 201: Course for Coaches via the Wrestling Australia Academy. When registering your account for the first time, you will be required to enter your relevant personal details such as name, email address and country. Wrestling Australia requires applicants to upload several documents as part of their registration, including:

        First Aid Certificate

Working with Children Check (or state equivalent)

        Police Check

Signed agreement to follow WAL concussion policy

Signed agreement to follow all other relevant WAL policies

Sports Integrity Australia e-learning badges as requested by Wrestling Australia.

Step 2 – Beginning the online course:

Upon the completion of your registration, you will be able to access the online course material. The online course is the first learning component of the course and must be completed before progressing to the practical examination. This can be completed at your own pace and involves various modules addressing the key components of coaching, including the role of the coach, safety, planning and organisation, communication skills and technical skills.

Answers provided during the course will be assessed by a Wrestling Australia accredited assessor, so should all be answered in full and with appropriate detail included.

Step 3 – Completion of online course:

Once all online content has been completed, you will then be issued with a certificate of completion for the online component of the course. Upon receiving this, you will then be eligible to complete the practical assessment. Please note that this certificate does not provide any form of coaching accreditation, it is used to recognise your completion of the online learning component.

Step 4 – Practical examination:

To be accredited as a Wrestling Australia Level 1 coach, a participant must pass a practical examination to assess their coaching skills. Examinations will be conducted by Wrestling Australia accredited assessors, all of whom have many years coaching experience.

These assessments will be conducted over the duration of one (1) day at a location predetermined by Wrestling Australia one month in advance. These practical assessments will be conducted across member states, with accredited assessors marking participants against pre-set competencies and criteria.

Step 5 – After completion:

Once the participant has successfully completed both the online and practical components of the course, they will then be deemed as competent and issued a level 1 Wrestling Australia coaching accreditation. This accreditation will be valid for 3 years from the date of issue and will need to be renewed upon expiry.
