John Kinsela Park

Published Sat 09 Nov 2024

The John Kinsela Park was officially opened on Friday 8 November, located in the CBD of Blacktown NSW in honour of John Francis Kinsela OAM.  John was the first Aboriginal Australian to wrestle at the Olympic Games, he represented Australia twice at the Olympics in Mexico 1968 and then Munich in 1972.  John served Australia at war and served his community with relentless effort going well beyond the call of duty for over 50 years of help, guidance, mentorship and service to people in need. A special thank you to Charlie Georges for donating the parkland and his continued perseverance, Blacktown City Council for recognizing John’s outstanding achievements and Stephan Jaeggi for nominating and facilitating this important statement of recognition.
