2025 Oceania Championships Selection Trial (U17, U20 and Seniors)

Competition Information
The 2025 Oceania Championships will be held in American Samoa from the 20th-22nd March 2025. The following age and weight classes will be contested at the 2025 Oceania Championships:
Senior Greco Roman
- 55/60/63/67/72/77/82/87/97/130kgs
Senior Women’s Wrestling
- 50/53/57/59/62/65/72/76kgs
Senior Freestyle
- 57/61/65/70/74/79/86/92/97/125kgs
U20 Greco Roman
- 55/60/63/67/72/77/82/87/97/130kgs
U20 Women’s Wrestling
- 50/53/57/59/62/65/72/76kgs
U20 Freestyle
- 57/61/65/70/74/79/86/92/97/125kgs
U17 Women’s Wrestling (15 with medical and parental certificate)

All athlete that are under the age of 18 and wish to compete in a higher age class must complete the application to compete in a higher age class form and return to admin@wrestling.com.au by the 9am on the 6th of February.
Selection Process (All ages)
1. Registration
Ø Deadline: Athletes must register by the 6th of February 2025. No registrations will be accepted after that time.
Normal registration is available until the 1st of Febuary at 11pm, after that time late registrations will be available until the 6th of February.
Ø Eligibility Verification: Registered athletes will undergo an eligibility check to confirm they meet all selection criteria.
3. Weigh-In
Ø Weight Allowance: A 2 kg allowance will be granted for the U20 and Senior weight categories.
Ø No weight tolerance is permitted for the U17 weight categories. All U17 athletes must make weight on or under their nominated weight class.
Ø Medical Check: All athletes will undergo a medical check at the time of the weigh in.
Ø Weigh-In Time: Weigh-ins will be conducted on the 8th of February between 9.30 and 10am at the competition venue. Late arrivals will not be permitted to compete.
3. Competition Format
Rules: All matches will adhere to United World Wrestling (UWW) rules to align with international standards.
- Direct Elimination Format: This format will be used for weight categories with more than five competitors. Athletes who lose a match will be eliminated from the main bracket, progressing to a repechage bracket to determine bronze medallists, aligning with standard UWW elimination procedures.
- Nordic System (Round-Robin): For weight categories with five or fewer athletes, a Nordic (round-robin) system will be used. Each athlete will compete against all other competitors in their weight category, ensuring a comprehensive ranking.
Ø Classification Points: UWW’s classification points system will determine the top performer in each weight category. Points will be awarded based on match outcomes (e.g., victories by fall, technical superiority, and decisions), with the highest total points determining the winner.
6. Event Flow and Scheduling
Pre-Event Orientation: Athletes must attend a briefing session to review the competition format, UWW classification points, and event rules.
Match Schedule: Matches will start promptly at 12pm and follow a structured schedule based on weight categories and formats (Direct Elimination or Nordic).
Additional Information
- Only the top-ranked athlete in each weight category from the selection trials will be chosen to represent Australia at the 2025 Oceania Championships.
- If the top-ranked athlete declines, the next highest-ranked athlete will be selected, continuing in this manner as necessary.
- Athletes who do not participate in the selection trials will not be considered for selection.
- Athletes must compete in the same age and weight class at the selection trials and the 2025 Oceania Championships.
Eligibility Requirements for Athletes:
- Must be a current member of Wrestling Australia at the time of the selection trials, training camp and the 2025 Oceania Championships.
- Must have no outstanding debts to Wrestling Australia at the time of event registration.
- Must be eligible to represent Australia internationally, in accordance with UWW rules. All athletes must provide a copy of their Australian Passport at the time of registration.
- Must complete any required anti-doping education by the designated date.
- Must complete all required paperwork provided by Wrestling Australia by the designated date.
Additional Requirement:
- All selected athletes are required to attend the national training camp in preparation for the Oceania Championships, this camp is scheduled to be held in Canberra between the 1st and the 7th of February. Athletes are responsible for the costs of atteding the camp.
Costs
Attendance at the 2025 Oceania Championships is self-funded, all athletes must arrange their own flights to attend the event. All athletes must make payment for the following by the 15th of February. Failure to make payment will result in the athlete not being registered for the event:
- Four nights accommodation at the competition at the assigned hotel- $1500
- 2025 United World Wrestling Licence
- 200 for Seniors
- 100 for U17
- Entry Fee
- Any other expenses that arise during the time of competition that are not included in the participation fees
