WRESTLING SA AND WRESTLING ACADEMY SA PAY TRIBUTE TO JIM BLIZNAKOVSKI

HOSTED BY WRESTLING ACADEMY SA

Mitre (Jim) Bliznakovski (1942-2013) was born in Macedonia and was a child refugee from the Greek civil war. Growing up in the Czech Republic, as a teenager he was a keen wrestler in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman, winning titles in both and going on to represent his country at numerous international competitions.

In 1975, Jim and his family migrated to South Australia and he soon became a pillar of the Olympic Wrestling community here. Jim dedicated decades of his life to coaching in SA, including training several of our greatest athletes. Some of these also went on to be great coaches, including current Wrestling SA Head Coach Lubomir Hofr and fellow legend Stan Werner. 

The Bliznakovski Memorial Open pays tribute to Jim and his outstanding contribution to SA wrestling. It is an all ages event, open to competitors from Wrestling, BJJ, MMA, Judo, and other comparable sports. Interstate/International competitors welcome.

Come and practice your skills, learn new techniques and challenge yourself in the world's ancient and toughest sport!

$30 entry fee including Wrestling Australia athlete insurance for the event.  More information through Wrestling SA's website.

Uniform: Singlets are optional. Rashies and shorts are required. Wrestling boots are strongly suggested (Contact us to see how you can get a pair!). Rashies, singlets and shorts available for purchase on the day!

Rules: United World Wrestling (UWW) Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling rules.  Rules will be explained during a demonstration match on the day, prior to the matches starting. (Perfect for novice wrestlers.)
