National Events and Selection for 2020 Oceania Championships

National Events and Selection for 2020 Oceania Championships

At a Special General Meeting on the 16th of August Wrestling Australia decided that there would be no 2020 National Championships.

The reason for this is the continuing uncertainty about being able to hold events because of the current pandemic.

If permitted individual states will hold local competitions, and each state may decide if these can be used as selection events for a National Championship, when the situation improves.

As yet, there is no decision made by UWW about the running of the 2020 Oceania Championships.

As there will be no Selection Event for the Cadet, Junior and Non-Olympic Weight Classes at 2020 Oceania Championships, the selection will now be decided by the Wrestling Australia Board instead.  More information on this will be provided shortly by the Board.

As more information becomes available about the 2020 Oceania Championships from UWW, we will keep you informed.

Wrestling Australia has decided not to proceed with using the Points System which was to be used for prioritising athletes to be selected for funding for the 2021 World Championships.

 Current Situation

2020 National Championships – cancelled, State Championships still to proceed

2020 Oceania Championships – scheduled for January or February 2021, no host country or venue decided yet.
